



Dr James McAllister
Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon BSc MBChB H. Dip Orth (SA) FC Orth (SA)
James McAllister was born in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. He matriculated from Maritzburg College. He went on to study medicine at the University of Natal and earned his medical degree in 2001.
After internship and community service, he started his specialisation in orthopaedics. This was based in the hospitals of KZN. James sat his exams and qualified as an Orthopaedic Surgeon in 2008.
In 2009, James embarked on a one year knee fellowship and a 6 month hip fellowship at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Scotland. Thereafter he worked as a Consultant at one of the UK’s busiest joint replacement hospitals, the Golden Jubilee National Hospital. He developed an interest in complex knee surgery (osteotomies; unicompartmental replacements; total replacements; revision replacements; patella femoral pathologies and soft tissue knee surgery) and hip surgery.
In 2013 he returned home to the Midlands to set up Midlands Orthopaedics, sharing his time between Hilton's Life Private Hospital and Howick’s Mediclinic Hospital.
